Inaugural G.E.R.M. Awards Support the Future of ID

Last month, 61 medical students from across the U.S. were selected to receive the inaugural G.E.R.M. (Grants for Emerging Researchers/Clinicians Mentorship) Program awards from the IDSA Foundation and HIVMA. Each awardee will receive a $4,000 stipend to pursue a clinical learning and/or research project on an infectious diseases or HIV-related topic for up to a year under the mentorship of an IDSA or HIVMA member. This year’s projects reflect the diversity that the field offers -- with projects ranging from HIV and diabetes in the era of antiretroviral therapy to identifying characteristics and motivations of pro-vaccine parents to the role of cardiolipin synthase in enterococcus faecalis daptomycin resistance. Learn more about the 2019 G.E.R.M. awardees on the IDSA Foundation website.
